Helping Teens Manage Stress

A Note From The Santa Monica Teen & Family Therapist

At no other time in history have teenagers been in need of tools and practices that help them to manage their stress.  – Sandra

Did you know that the ability to cope with negative feelings and move on from bad experiences can be learned?

Self-injury and substance abuse is on the rise among teens and pre-teens. Drug addiction is often based on the user wanting to get away from painful feelings, such as anxiety or depression.

Mindfulness is a term used to describe the practice of observing one’s thoughts and body in the present moment. Mindfulness can literally affect the brain connections involved in attention, memory, and emotional regulation.

In my work with my teenage clients, I teach mindfulness and self-awareness exercises. My goal is to help teens learn how to recognize their feelings and then use that information to respond in helpful and more positive ways.

If your teen or young adult child is struggling socially or emotionally, I can help you to discover the cause and remedy it.
